Agenda
Endoluminal ultrasound in the anal canal and rectum has made the significant progress in the investigation of anorectal disorders. This modality of investigation is now established in the investigation of anal fistulas, anorectal sepsis and incontinence. Endorectal ultrasound, is useful in local staging of rectal cancers.
This is a one day pre-congress course in endoanal and endorectal ultrasound will include lectures, demonstrations and hands-on stations. The course is geared towards all those involved in colorectal imaging and management - doctors (consultants and residents), nurses and technicians.
Objectives
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the basic principles and physics of endoanal/rectal ultrasound
- Understand the technique and principles of image interpretation
- Identify the normal anatomy of the anus and the rectum
- Set up the equipment to perform an examination
- Understand the indications and limitations of the technique
