Agenda
Colorectal surgical conditions form a major proportion of admissions to the general surgical discipline. Together with the progress in the surgical management of these patients, we need to equip ourselves with more knowledge in the field of specialized nursing care for these patients. Nursing issues such as surgical wounds, stoma care and total management of patients with fecal incontinence will be the focus of this workshop.

This half day workshop includes lectures, case studies and discussions on the nursing issues mentioned above and are geared towards all health care workers who are involved in the care of patients with colorectal conditions.

Objectives
On completion of this workshop, participants should be able to understand:
- The principles of managing colorectal surgical wounds
- The principles of stoma care (stoma marking, stoma care and management of its complications)
- The management of social issues arising from stoma (intimacy and nutritional concerns)
- The basic pathophysiology of fecal incontinence and nursing issues in the management of fecal incontinence
- The purpose of the Colectomy Pathway in the perioperative care of patients following colorectal surgery
